Scorch retarders: CTP and the nitrosamine-free alternative
Retarders prevent the compound from partially curing before it reaches the mould (scorch); used correctly they widen the processing window without hurting cure rate or final properties. CTP (Vulkalent G) is the industry standard in sulphenamide systems; Vulkalent E is the nitrosamine-free sulphonamide alternative.
Quick selection guide
- Vulkalent G (CTP): a clear increase in scorch time at 0.1–0.5 phr
- Vulkalent E: no nitrosamines, broad system compatibility
- Critical in thick sections, injection and extrusion compounds
- Evaluate together with accelerator choice rather than simply adding more retarder
